What is America Recycles Day?
America Recycles Day (ARD) is a national observance in the United States that promotes recycling on November 1
5th of every year. It is important as EcoReps to encourage the student body to increase recycling efforts in their everyday lives, as it creates a positive impact on the environment.
EcoReps takes part in ARD every year! In doing so, we provide valuable information on the recycling process at Penn State and how students are involved in the process. Recycling can be a little overwhelming at times–some things look like they can be recycled (but cannot), some things need to be rinsed and washed, and some things need to be separated before they are sent away to be recycled.
That being said, it is important as peer educators on sustainability to make this process as simple as can be! Showing students how to recycle (and do it properly) will make the process seem much less scary, and lead to more students doing their part to protect the environment.
How can you celebrate America Recycles Day?
Visit us at the HUB and also the East Commons where we will be tabling from Nov 9th to 15th! Each day, we will be focusing on a recyclable material at the tables to teach you how to be more sustainable and learn something new! On the 15th (ARD), you can also find us at Pollock Commons and the Business Building. Make sure you enter our raffle to win a possible recycled fleece blanket, reusable notebook, and water bottle!
